A Serph for Any Occasion

There are a total of three Serphs. The first is the "real" Serph: Dr. Serph Sheffield, about which you may have noticed this shrine is devoted. As discussed in the Battle section, he can transform into a dark version of Varna.

The second Serph is a "fake" Serph, or the product of Sera's original A.I. playground. He wears a gray bathing suit, plays volleyball, and has a vocabulary limited to "Sera" and "Where are you, Sera?" He's pretty boring, and seems to be Sera's boyfriend. Because she programmed him to be. He has a white Varna avatar.

Finally, we have our hero, the leader of Embryon and everyone's favorite silent protagonist, Serph. Like Fake Serph, he was created by Sera to be her idealized version of Dr. Serph Sheffield. This means he's less inclined to manipulate people and send the world spiraling into tragedy. It does, however, up his potential Gary Stu points +25.

How exactly was this Serph created? Well, it turns out that a pained Sera had been escaping to a virtual world of her creation where all of her favorite staff members and friends (primarily Heat, Serph, Argilla, and a boy named Cielo) played year-round volleyball with her. Not my dream world, but to each her own.

The Karma Society discovered this world, and ordered Sera to destroy her Barbie Beach Getaway in favor of a really nifty war simulation known as "The Junkyard". Sera was too pained to give up her idealized Serph and friends, and instead transferred them into the simulation.

Because it's totally cool to have them fight a virtual war 24/7 instead of saving them the suffering. That Sera, always looking out for her buddies!

It was in the Junkyard that they eventually become demons, and with that unleashed their true humanity: complete with emotions, devotions, and hopes.

It's worth noting that the original Dr. Serph hated her virtual playground. Ouch.

The Junkyard Serph has silver hair and gray eyes, in contrast to Dr. Serph Sheffield's darkish hair and darkish eyes -- look, the film color in the flashbacks is kind of weird, so it's hard to get an exact color, okay?

Serph is strong, brave, and your typical Japanese RPG hero. We don't get a lot of his dialogue, and we're not sure how much he retained from his previous incarnation as Dr. Serph. He seems to be a very rational leader, and definitely inspires trust in his comrades. Like Dr. Sheffield, his demon form is Varna; this one, however, is sort of blue-gray-white-is that some yellow?

Serph bears the Water Crown Atma, which means he starts off both games controlling Ice Magic. I think, deep down, Dr. Serph would be proud his progeny wields the frosty power of ice.

It also means that he and Heat the Fire User employ each other's weaknesses.

Hee hee hee.

I won't reveal all of that Serph's tale here, because that's for you to discover when you play the game! Backwards | Main page | Windy-Days.net
