Karma Police, Devour This Man

As you've probably gathered by now, Serph finally got the power of God. The means was a little unexpected, though.

You see, Dr. Heat O'Brien had finally had enough of Serph manipulating Sera. After witnessing Serph once more order her extended suffering "in the name of science", then soothing Sera with sweet, false words, Heat lived up to his name and angrily pulled a gun on Serph. What neither realized is that a panicked staff member, in his rush to get away from the crazy doctor with a gun (you just can't trust those rebellious types with names like "Heat", man!), accidentally switched the security monitoring device on. The following confrontation is played out for everyone in the building -- including Sera.

Heat: That's enough!

Serph: Don't be a hypocrite. You wanted to learn about God, didn't you? That's why you joined. If Sera dies, we move onto the next child. If that child dies, we use another. That's how it works. Honestly, we shouldn't be wasting time on trivial arguments. I think we're both better than that.

Heat: You're really something, you know that? You can't just manipulate people to do whatever the hell you want!

Serph: Oh, can't I now?

This is the part where Argilla shoots Heat in the back. Not exactly child-friendly tv, especially when the aforementioned "it's cool if she dies" kid is watching.

Now, this would probably scar any normal child, even if she was a Cyber Shaman who could talk to God. But what Serph didn't realize is that making Sera cry made her favorite playmate, the Almighty God himself, really sad.

That means God was ready to smack a bitch.

The subsequent rush of data from the sun (and one pissed God) made everything go bonkers. I don't know how it made everything go bonkers, it just did. That's what the game says, and who am I to question the game?

So everything's being destroyed, and in the mean time, the data washes over Serph and finally grants his wish: the powers of God.

Unfortunately, this meant a few subtle physiological differences, including taking the form of a black demon named Varna. This form, you see, was a reflection of Serph's own heart: dark, twisted, ravenous, and cruel. This also makes Serph the forerunner of the "we like to eat people" demons that literally all the cool kids will get turned into later.

Serph/Varna's first official act as Really Powerful Being was to devour Argilla (love's a bitch) and project sponsor Colonel Beck. You may remember that Colonel Beck seemed really pissy at Serph II in the first game. Now you know why.

Apparently Dr. Demon goes on to kill a lot of people before being taken down like a dog, and ta-da: the sun goes black thanks to God's anger, a lot of people die, and our tale of Dr. Serph ends.

Or does it? Keep reading. Backwards | Main page | Windy-Days.net
