The Happiest Place on Earth

At one point in Digital Devil Saga, you'll venture to Coordinate 136. Referred to as the "Northern Ruins" and described as laden with "traps", it's actually the remnants of an old world amusement park, a la Disney World, though a little more reminiscent of No Doubt's song Tragic Kingdom. It's called Destiny Land, and you will be exploring its Mystery Castle.

Enjoy it, because it's probably the only time you'll be at an amusement park without an hour long wait to ride the rollercoaster.

The story to be told now is that of a beautiful princess and two princes. What dramatic conclusion awaits you along this path? Now, open the door, and watch the tale unfold... Let us depart on a journey of mystery and adventure!
Long story short, it's a really long fable mirroring the true story of Dr. Serph Sheffield, Dr. Heat O'Brien, and Sera. The fairy Twinklebell (can they be sued for that?) will lead you through puzzle after puzzle as you try to unravel the tale of the Good Prince and the Evil Prince.

Because those puzzles can be annoying, let me sum it up for you:

Once upon a time, in a land far, far away, there was a beautiful princess and two princes. One was kind, gentle, and popular among the people; he was called the "Good Prince". The other was short-tempered, brash, and liked punching people. He was the "Evil Prince". Remember, there are no shades of gray in fairy tales!

The princess loved the Good Prince, who took to wearing blue and generally didn't make your life hell with really obnoxious portrait puzzles. The Evil Prince was also in love with the princess, so he and his little red-clad self often tried to get between them.

The princess was magical, as all good princesses are, and one day she was captured by an "evil being" who hoped to exploit her for nefarious purposes. The two princes rode off to save their fair lady, but instead of working together (which would have been the smart idea), they kept getting in each other's way. Ah, men.

The evil prince finally challenged the good prince to a duel, because masculine pride is totally more important than rescuing your girlfriend. They fought, and apparently one of them died. You don't learn which, though the damaged recording alludes that perhaps there was a "Truly Good Prince" and a "Truly Evil Prince".

For those playing at home, the original Good Prince represented Dr. Serph Sheffield: Sera's Knight in Shining Armor. The original Evil Prince was, of course, Dr. Heat O'Brien, who Sera viewed as a frightening bully due to his hostility toward Serph. The duel was a fairy tale take on the doctors' fight in the EGG Facility.

Yes, that's right -- the Good Prince was the "Truly Evil Prince" while the Evil Prince turned out to be the Good Guy after all. The princess was upset that her true love died, just as Sera saw Heat, the one who had been looking out for her all along, shot due to Serph's machinations.

Too bad none of them were smart enough to figure that out earlier, huh? Backwards | Main page | Windy-Days.net
