Heroism: Yay! Larsa Did It!Yes, ladies and gentlemen, Larsa does help save the day! While each player in this political drama has their own special role, his is one of the largest. After fighting Vayne with the Main Party on the Bahamut, Larsa is knocked out by an electrical field surrounding his brother. The group defeats Vayne again, but this time he unleashes a powerful final magic attack at them – - and it is revealed that sometime during the fight, Larsa awoke, and is ready to use his own Nethicite against Vayne. With a stoic, calm face, he absorbs Vayne’s attack and then shatters it for his brother to see. What a hero! After Vayne is defeated once and for all, Larsa picks himself up, dusts himself off, and the party moves onto the Strahl. Even as Gabranth lies dying, war still looms on the horizon. The Liberation Army, lead by Ashe's uncle, the Marquis Ondore, decides to attack the Archadian forces. Basch, desperate to stop both sides from firing, grabs the intercom and masquerades as his brother, Gabranth, stating that they have reached an agreement with Dalmasca and the conflict is over. This isn’t enough for either side, however, so he passes the microphone to Larsa. Larsa tells his very first Noble Lie as he states, point blank, that his brother died an “honorable death on the battlefield”, and now all troops are under his personal control. He is the new Emperor of Archadia. This scene tells us a lot about Basch and Larsa, both individually and as a team. Basch is quick to let Larsa take part in the necessary lie, though probably only because it was, well, necessary. Likewise, Larsa uses a blatant untruth to prevent a catastrophic war – if Vayne’s true manner of death was revealed, it would have caused not only confusion among the troops, but possibly pushed the loyal Archadian fleet into attacking first. Similarly, any sign of weakness now would have made him seem vulnerable and unable to handle his troops, a situation that may have led to the Liberation Army and Rozzaria attacking. Thus it is with a firm voice that Larsa declares his new power. The honest, innocent little boy from the beginning of the game has grown into a savvy, strong young man, who squares his shoulders, lifts his chin, and does what is necessary to protect his friends, his empire, and his family. |
