Emperor Gramis SolidorLarsa’s father is the 11th emperor of Archadia, and the fourth Solidor emperor to sit on the throne. There is a throwaway comment by Vayne that the people elect their emperor, but this remains a bit hard to reconcile with an actual Empire -- a system of government not normally lauded for their democratic way of electing officials.Gramis is aging and ill; in a very Marcus Aurelius fashion, he states that, “this disease will kill me”. Racing against time, he must choose which of his sons will succeed him as the leader of Archadia. This is not made easy when you realize that the elder is charismatic, charming, and absolutely Machiavellian, while the other is charismatic, charming, but very young and still can be taken advantage of by stronger forces. Gramis refers to his son Larsa quite a bit. He mentions his innocence and devotion to Vayne often, and in the end, forsakes his own life to keep his son safe and his empire in Vayne's hands. x | return |
