Concepts

The concepts that shape a Solidor's life - in particular, of course, the life of one Larsa Ferrinas Solidor.

House Solidor: House Solidor is the current ruling family in Archadia at the time of the game. The term also stands for their power, lineage, victories, and past tragedies and corrupt dealings. House Solidor is decidedly dark and devoted to ruling and, most importantly, protecting their empire and own.

Chivalry: Chivalry is now somewhat relegated to an outdated, Arthurian concept, but it plays a large role in Larsa’s behavior.

Chivalry is, essentially, a warrior’s code of ethics and behaviors. Because kings often were expected to also be warriors, many were understood to abide by these laws. It was believed that chivalry separated the nobility from the peasants – they had their manners and honor, while peasants were too coarse and unseemly for either.

Like the ideal kings of legend and lore, Larsa is chivalrous to a fault, and believes in protecting those who may not be as strong or in the same position as him. He swears to protect Penelo when she becomes his escort, despite the fact that Penelo is older and an able hand-to-hand combatant. He waxes eloquent about his brother and father, who he believes also protect people for the good of the nations and strive toward peace. Sadly, his faith is very misguided; if his brother uses chivalry, it is in all the wrong ways.

Many virtues were associated with chivalry, such as courage, justice, mercy, generosity, nobility, charity, and honor. Once again, in some fashion Larsa exhibits all of these characteristics.

Manners: an extension of chivalry, Larsa is mannerly and polite toward most people. He also has a gentle bearing – in his official “court portrait” with Vayne released by Square-Enix, he is seen with his hands folded, his head held high, and his ankles crossed, all signs of a gentleman. He also is known to address people by their title, a necessity in royal life.

Peace & Truth: Peace and truth are Larsa’s driving forces in the game. He first meets Vaan’s questing party searching for the truth about the Nethicite. Likewise, he wishes to avoid additional conflicts at all costs. This leads him to entering into alliances with enemy nation’s princes and persuading Ashe to follow him to the wise elder Anastasis in order to reinstate her on the Dalmascan throne. While this means the Archadian Empire losing Dalmasca, Larsa would rather see the loss of territory then more death and destruction.
