Basch fon RonsenbergBasch is actually the twin brother of Larsa’s beloved Judge Gabranth. In the FINALE, Gabranth is seen dying on one of the Strahl’s bunks with Basch and Larsa tending to him. Larsa, deeply indebted to Gabranth, takes his hand between both of his while Basch listens closely to his final words.We don’t actually discover these final words until the epilogue. At some point, Larsa was sent away while Basch remained to hear Gabranth’s dying wish. This wish was that Basch would take Gabranth’s place and stay with Larsa. Gabranth has come to realize that Larsa, that precocious future philosopher king, is the lynchpin in Ivalice’s peace. Only a compassionate, idealistic king can keep the monolith of Archadia strong and decidedly anti-war. Shortly after Gabranth’s death, Larsa and Basch have their first tagteam – check out the FINALE for that. In the final fmv, Basch and Larsa are seen together in Archadia; it can be assumed that they are happy, and from the way smile at each other and nod, they seem to get along well. Larsa gives Basch the chance to return to Dalmasca, but Basch instead remembers his vow to Gabranth, and moves to stand loyally beside Larsa. The man once abused by the Empire has come to defend it – and its new emperor.
