tragedy

she was leaving just as I arrived

There's no doubt that Haseo was very close to Shino. She was one of the reasons he even joined the Twilight Brigade; it certainly wasn't because he thought running around looking for a potentially fictional item that exceeded the game specs sounded like a great day's work or anything.

Shortly before Shino was PKed by Tri-Edge, Ovan disappeared at ΘHidden Forbidden Battlefield, also known as Coite-Bodher. While it was finally revealed that he was kidnapped by Yata and Pi, that didn't change the fact that their intrepid little ship was now without a rudder. The rest of the Twilight Brigade was at a loss for what to do without their fearless leader to guide them.

Eventually, most members drifted away or left the game altogether. In the end, only Haseo and Shino were left to carry on the guild -- and even that was soon disbanded. However, despite Shino's depression over Ovan's disappearance, Haseo swore to her that he would stand by her side until the end. He promised to protect her in Ovan's stead and wait with her until the guildmaster finally returned.

Shortly thereafter, Shino received word that Ovan was waiting for her at ΔHidden Forbidden Holy Ground, aka the Hulle Granz Cathedral. Unfortunately for her, she instead discovers the true Tri-Edge. Just as she was PKed, Haseo rushed in, hot on her trail thanks to a tip from Tabby. Unfortunately, it was too late: Shino was losing consciousness even as he cradled her in his arms. Within a matter of moments she became one of the Lost Ones. The only other witness was, surprisingly enough, Azure Kite, who looked quite guilty to the traumatized Haseo.

And so began Haseo's journey in The World to gain power and defeat Tri-Edge. Meanwhile, Ryou made a point to visit Shino every day in the hospital, solidifying Haseo's determination to save Shino no matter the cost.
