Little is known about the player behind Haseo. We do know that his real name is Misaki Ryou (Misaki being the family name) and he lives in Tokyo. He's seventeen-years-old and attends a prestigious private school. He mentions to Tabby that he no longer lives with his parents; rumor has it because his father owns a major company with a base of operations elsewhere. He has a cell phone, though everyone does these days, so that may not be the most revealing tidbit about him. He's believed to have a part-time job at a grocery store. That's quite a lot for Ryou to juggle, especially considering he spends so much time saving the world via online game.

It's difficult to know too much about Haseo's personal life through his online exchanges. For instance, when asked if he prefers Japanese or Western breakfasts, the player can respond with either. Depending on your choice, Haseo can love All-You-Can-Eat meat joints, or lament how cheap the food tastes. While this definitely makes the player feel like a bigger part of Haseo's life, it makes it difficult to pinpoint his "offline" self.

Ryou originally begins playing The World: R2 because a real life friend encourages him to give it a try. Whether or not a little subconscious nostalgia for his former incarnation is mixed in with this, we don't know for sure. That doesn't stop me from speculating, of course.
